God's Calling?
Hey, remember that bible story where God calls someone to do something very reasonable and obvious?
no?!?
Well, I guess that the rebuilding of the wall in Nehemiah could be compared to a church rebuilding project of some sort...
however... what I wanted to get at is that in a lot of bible stories, God does seem to call people to things that seem contrary to human wisdom.
It seems like nowadays when we hear people say that they've received a calling to this thing or that, it quite often has a bit more money and potential personal gain attached to it than it did for many of those who received callings in the bible stories....
Okay, I'm back
I don't want to throw a lot of scepticism towards all those people who are called to things by God. That's great, and you should be happy.
All that I've noticed is that a lot of time anymore when someone says that they've been called by God to do something, it's often to their advantage to convince others that they have been called to the aforementioned task. ie, televangelists. It's to their advantage for us to believe that they have received this calling.
I wonder if this is a Biblical model for calling. I guess that moses had to convince the egyptians that he was sent by God. There are lots of examples of people having to convince their opponents that they were sent by God... I guess that Paul spent enough time convincing people in the church that he was sent by God. But Paul was also on a die hard speaking tour that would make the rolling stones look settled. He wasn't really called to something comfortable or worldly or calm and reasonable.
Does God call people to things that are reasonable, lucrative and comfortable? I guess that there was King David and King Solomon who had those types of situations. Was that God's calling or God's provision? Is there a difference?
no?!?
