It seems sometimes that life itself is the paint that insulates us from and covers up the ugly rotting walls of fear
until dreams are the only place for true terror or sorrow!
Anymore,
I've had dreams where I've cried,
I've had dreams where I've felt very afraid,
more often than I experience these things in reality.

And it makes me think that the loss of vulnerability correlates with success.
Of course it does in what I know of our culture and our times,
Everyone wants to be safe anymore
to the point of being safe from experiencing life at all.

I work with the poor
and I see how unprotected it must feel to not have a job or a place to live
to hide behind
How different the experience must be
carrying that vulnerability

Success in our culture is in some ways the overcoming of life itself

"Therefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure." -Philippians 2:12-13

DECAPITATED STATUE OF BUDDHA!... or I met the Buddha on the side of the road but someone had already killed him!

Went out driving around looking for Garage sales today. I saw some interesting things, here are the highlights:
- A pile of stuff at the side of someone's driveway that they had obviously decided to smash before throwing out. Included in the pile, a small statue of buddha with the head broken off. This kind of made me laugh because I think it's ironic. I imagine that this pile of rubble was created by university students who didn't want to take their stuff home. I guess that the Buddha statue must have been too heavy to carry with them.
- Laura, who also went on a Chastity tour that I did but went to the east coast while my group went to the west coast was having a garage sale. She's a message therapist now. She had a really cool white dresser there that had been decorated by having sheets of music attached to it all over. It made it look pretty cool.
- Saw two beautiful, large wooden record cabinet's in excellent shape with only a few scratches and all the guts intact sitting at the side of the road in front of a large house. I pulled over and opened the lids to see that one had the small turntable for playing 45's and the other had the full sized deck in it. They both still had records in them. I didn't look through the records because I was kind of confused and sad that someone would throw something like that away and wanted to think that maybe they belonged to someone and were just sitting there for a moment.
- I went to a garage sale and bought a daryl hall and john oates record for 50 cents. I'm listenning to it now and it is terrible music!!!!! This doesn't appeal to me at all. I think that I had them confused with Simon and Garfunkel or bell and sebastian. This record is awfull... does anyone want it? it's in good condition and it's free!

Meanings of Words

Sometimes I have to think about what things mean. Where is the line between a sentance being completely incoherent and ingenious?
I spent over an hour last night playing a game of checkers with a man who claims to analyse the meanings of letters in words when people speak to him and reads dictionary's for fun.
He tried to the best of his ability to explain to me what he would consider to be an integral mind. If I caught the gist of his point correctly, he was saying that eccentrics don't have the right to label a man of vigor such as himself as psychotic because he believes in the individual and won't personalize with it. He called this "personal philosophics" and I asked him if that meant that he had an entirely subjective philosophical system to which he replied, "no, I'm not anywhere near that good at it yet".
He used a lot of large words in his speach, yet it was still possible to understand some of what he was saying with a lot of concentration. It felt kind of like trying to understand another language at times.
Hopefully, I haven't crossed the line on confidentiality by describing the above interaction, but I really felt it raises some important issues or at least leads me to think of some great questions.
- Does a person have the right to decide that they are or are not crazy even if their behaviour or conversation style might seem crazy to others?
- Vocabulary can make a person sound crazy or ingenious, where is this line? People use big words to sound smart all the time. When is this constructive and when is it not? How does vocabulary relate to power? (don't people in power usually use the big words? if an individual wants to make up thier own big words or phrases people won't try as hard to understand because the person isn't in a position of power)
- Is there a point where a person can go into their own way of thinking and of analysing things and loose their connection with reality but still be aware of it?

The Silver Jews

So, My love bought me a new peice of vinyl yesterday afternoon (for my birthday, so she didn't say what it is). She told me that it's something that she was surprised to see for sale, that I've been interested in for the past month and that it's an album she thinks that I will really enjoy listening to. She was very surprised that I didn't figure out what band she was talking about. I really didn't have any idea what band she was talking about at the time. I still might not have the right band. I thought that making a post like this would be a neat indirect way of saying that I have a guess! but I'm still not sure what album it might be. Anyways, I'm looking forward to it! And now I'm really excited about my birthday!!!!
:D

and they just wash against me like the sea into a pier." - trains across the sea (silver Jews)

I was going to quote something from one of the peices of writing on their webpage, but I guess that they've removed all the writing except song lyrics.

Oh! I found their writing from my old post! they just don't link to it anymore.

Why Some don't run

Some athelete's think they could be rich and famous
but instead they never run
For some people, it's just a thing
Like putting a price on a song that bird's sing
And it's fear that escourts all of us to the grave

It's fear that makes cowards and fear that makes kings
but what if your leg's go soft?
and what if your ears fall off?
and if you tumble across the tv screen
like a tumbleweed but twice as fast
does that mean twice as many things?

No, some don't run
And some turtles win races
And some birds sing for the hell of it
And some ship's return home
And you never hear tell of it

And sometimes running can be really difficult
And you get lazy and say,
why should I bother with this thing?
And everyone asks you what you're running from in the first place
but really there's nothing wrong with it either way,
Probably

And I also believe in dreams,
And I think that if you're supposed to run,
Then you will,
Unless you really screw something up,
I guess

Some people don't have legs,
Or some don't exist at all,
Although that would challenge the traditional definition of person

Will anyone ever live without fear?
Hopefully someday,
we're looking at something like that.
I'm talking about the afterlife here,
I think.

And some just don't run.
It's like they are doing something else
or they have some other really good excuse

I had the hiccups off and on all day. It was irritating. It's very difficult to have a serious conversation while hiccuping. They started this morning after eating some cold carrot's from the fridge. I got them to stop several times. At the moment I don't have them anymore. I hope that it will stay that way.

A great idea with Water!

I was just reading The Homeless Guy's Page, and he linked to this awesome experiment where a guy bought a case of water and then went out with a homeless man and sold it along a busy highway on a hot day. I also checked out the main blog that this idea came from... (Neville's Financial Blog NevBlog.com - Tracking the road to financial success from the age of 22.)... I'm not quite sure what to think of this yet, but it's definitely an interesting page from the mind of a business'ish guy who makes me feel significantly less motivated! Purhaps, however, there is something to be gained from his wisdom or perspective.

The Big Dipper

Last night, when I got home from working at the homeless shelter, I looked up at the sky. Right above my head, there was the big dipper!
It made me think about God. What kind of arbitrary thing is the big dipper? Was this some kind of joke, God?
The Big Dipper is probably the most recognizable constellation. I've never really been able to see the snake or the man with the bow and arrow, but I have no difficulty recognizing the big and small dipper's. But what does this mean?
Those who don't believe in God would most likely see this as just another grouping of stars placed where they are by the laws of physics. Some would say that constellations are un-christian, but as a person who believes that God created everything, I have to ask myself, "What was he doing here? What was he trying to accomplish through making the stars look like that?".
The Big Dipper, as can be seen in the picture here, points to the small dipper. I was told as a child that part of the small dipper is the north star and that sailors would look for the north star as a way of navigating their ships home.
So, did God have some sort of message for humanity in leaving this one truly visible diagram in the heavens for us? Perhaps that God likes cooking pots? I suppose that a real dipper of this sort could be used for washing or drinking. Jesus commands us to drink and wash, and shows us the way home (just like the big dipper points to the north star)! Maybe the big dipper is Jesus! Are you washed in the blood of the lamb? ...but then what's the small dipper? ...na, that doesn't make sense!
Maybe all the stars in the sky are actually arranged in the shape of various water containers and we are just inconveniently placed at the wrong angle to see it.
In the end, the big dipper is just either one perplexing statement by God or physics once again trying to make itself look like God (like when it played that sneaky trick of creating conscious beings through trial and error of nearly infinite random combinations).
So, the Big Dipper is just God's way of saying Hi. Kind of like a great big wink in the sky. Well, "Big Dipper" right back at you! I must say that I'm still very confused about many of the things you have done and created!
